THE RICK BROWN AUDIO INTERVIEW, MARCH 4, 2007

by John Herdt

Rick Brown was a member of Tommy Bolin’s crew and team from the time Tommy joined Zephyr up until when Tommy joined Deep Purple. On March 4, 2007 Rick got together with Tommy Bolin Archives webmaster and CD producer John Herdt to talk about Rick’s times with Tommy. The two hour interview was trimmed to a CD-length 74 minutes and is presented here in MP3 audio for download. Many new and surprising stories were told, including:

• How Rick and his older brother David Brown met Tommy in 1968

• The 1969 Denver Pop Festival

• Zephyr's appearance on American Bandstand

• Surprising friends Tommy made among members of top bands

• Tommy's hotel room jams with Rick Brown while on tour

• Comparing business and touring with Zephyr, Energy and the James Gang

• The time Rick and Tommy got on an elevator with comedian Dom DeLuise

• And many more great stories and facts

Rick’s older brother David Brown is well known to many of Tommy’s fans as Tommy’s long time friend and guitar tech, indeed David was with Tommy up until the night of Tommy's passing away on December 4, 1976. Now is your chance to meet Rick Brown, another important figure from Tommy’s professional career as he relates some rare insight into Tommy history.

The MP3 file was generated at 64 kbps to keep its size relatively manageable for downloads, so the audio quality took a hit but could be worse. It is well worth it though, real cool stuff.
